I’ll admit the liberation of the Holy Land,
especially Jerusalem, from the Ottoman Empire and the restoration of Israel
after 1878 years of exile has been nothing short of miraculous and just as the
Bible predicted. Everything seemed to coincide so neatly in December 1917 –
politically, militarily and even spiritually.
What about on the
battlefield? There must have been some miracles for the Israelis to always win more
territory against impossible odds?….
Perhaps we should make
this a work-in-progress with reported incidents, so let’s start with this one:
During the Yom Kippur
war of 1973, a battalion of Jordanian soldiers were moving in on a handful of
Israelis defending Mt. Zion, a hill in Jerusalem near the Temple Mount. The
Israelis had virtually run-out of ammunition and were expecting a fight to the
death. Why did the Jordanians suddenly
yell out in shock: “Abraham!” and run for their lives?
Wow! Aren’t there some Scriptures that claim Mt.
Zion is special?
Here’s a few:
“…Yet I have set my king
upon my holy hill of Zion…” Psalm 2
“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation,
the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city
of the great King.” Psalm
48
"The sons also of them
that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised
thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of the feet; and they shall call
thee, The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel." Isaiah 60
So where’s the
connection between Abraham and this site?
About 3,900 years ago Abraham was ready to sacrifice Isaac right here
at Moriah where king Solomon built the first temple.
